Gregory Caldwell Davison
Gregory was born on August 12, 1871 in Jefferson City, Missouri. He was appointed to the Naval Academy in 1888 and graduated in May 1892. In 1898 he married Aline Lydia Shepard, who was the daughter of Rear Admiral Edwin Malcolm Shepard. During his career, he served different ships specializing in torpedo boat operations. He also developed multiple devices, but he resigned from the Navy in 1907, due to military laws and patent rights. After his Navy career, he went to work for New London Ship and Engine Company(Electric Boat Company), which he resigned from in 1923. Gregory passed away in 1935 and was interned in Arlington national cemetery.
In 1942 a Gleaves class destroyer was laid down and named after Davison. The USS Davison was commissioned in September 1942 and decommissioned in 1949.
